Whew! We are back home and the jet lag "fog" is beginning to lift. Overall we enjoyed a successful trip, as we were able to accomplish our two primary purposes: encouraging the Bulgarian believers, and opening a dialogue with their leaders regarding future partnerships and ministry.
A couple of things we learned about Christianity in Bulgaria:
- It is a challenging place to plant churches! There are powerful cultural barriers to the true Gospel, and only prayerful, humble, persistent, and long-term expressions of God's love will break through the many obstacles. Pray for our Bulgarian brothers and sisters as they work in difficult circumstances!
- Tremendous damage was done by the "health and prosperity" preachers that came in immediately following the collapse of communism. Almost 20 years later the bitter fruit of that false teaching is still hindering the work of those who are accurately teaching the Bible.
- Young people are open to the truth. We were blessed to see many young adults who are committed to Jesus, or are seriously considering His claims.
Global Church Ministries will continue to visit this beautiful but spiritually needy country. If you are interested in joining this work, just drop me a line and I'll tell you how to get involved. Thanks for your prayers and support throughout this journey!
