Preparing Our Hearts

This past Sunday I shared a few statistics about the focus of the New Testament biographies, commonly known as the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. One third of all the verses in those accounts tell of the events that occurred in the last week of Jesus' earthly life, up to and including His trial, crucifixion, and resurrection.

If it is true, as believers claim, that the Scriptures were written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, then what should these statistics say to us about what God desires to emphasize?

With that in mind, I hope you will join me in preparing our hearts for the celebration this Sunday of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the source of our eternal hope.

As part of my message preparation for last week, I put together two different readings that were provided in Sunday's bulletin. If you weren't in the service, you can listen to the message and download the readings as PDF files by clicking here. The first reading is a chronological account of the various events of that final week. The second is a harmony of the resurrection, which takes all four biography's and combines them into one story.

Its a lot to read, I know, but I pray you will take the time to read at least something, in light of the eternal significance represented in these passages.
